The Las Vegas Wash Coordination Committee's Early Ranching Web page provides a brief history of ranches near the Las Vegas wash, east of the city. This includes information on the Bishop Ranch, the Winterwood Ranch and the Whitney Ranch.
The Early Vegas Ranches is
a blog inspired by an old map of artesian wells created by J. T. McWilliams. The
author takes some of the ranches on that map and attempts to trace their history
through old maps, web sites and newspaper articles. The site includes information on the Gilcrease Ranch, Winterwood Ranch, Tule Spring Park (Goumond, Nay), Wixon/McGriff Ranch and others.
The Nevada-History.org website was
created by UNLV student James Shown, for a history class, and has been maintained
as an active hobby.
